Q I have prescription insurance, but I still pay so much for my medications. Why is this and why does the price seem to change every time I get a refill? A Prescription insurance has become increasingly complex. It used to be that you had two copays: one for brand and another for generic. Now, the plans may have up to five tiers! The lowest is preferred generics, and then comes the non-preferred generics, preferred brands, non-preferred brands, and finally, the most expensive, “specialty” drugs.
