Happy New Year 2022! Hopefully you enjoyed some lovely family traditions or a great vacation in late December. Either way, January is always a chance to recommit to your fitness routine. New EmSculpt® HIFEM technology will give you a jumpstart, or if you’ve lost your edge, it will bring it back faster.

As a beauty expert specializing in cosmetic dermatology, I always seek to offer the next device or innovation that will provide excellent results (and happiness) for my patients. I was first exposed to HIFEM technology—both literally and conceptually—a few months before it became available to patients. I was impressed by the remarkable sensation of having my muscles contract beyond their usual capacity. It is a distinct, intense sensation but not painful. The first go was only five minutes, but recently, as I was doing my research, I had a chance to try a full treatment. My waist felt smaller and my abs tighter, and I was able to recruit muscles more effectively during my usual workouts. In addition, I asked my colleagues across the country what they thought of the device and received rave reviews from those who offer this procedure. They said their patients were thrilled (and somewhat addicted). I love to vet procedures personally, scientifically, and via feedback from the treating physicians who conducted the studies.

HIFEM, or High-Intensity Focused Electro-Magnetic field technology, has the ability to induce supramaximal muscle contractions. What does this mean for you? It means that your muscles can be toned deeply and intensely. Your waistline and buttocks can be firmed with extreme contractions that also burn fat efficiently. Other body areas, such as arms and thighs, may also be treated.

Supramaximal means that the device stimulates your muscles to contract more intensely and thoroughly than you ever could get them to yourself. It is estimated that a 30-minute session with the EmSculpt is equivalent to doing 2,000 crunches. When the muscle tissue is forced to adapt to more extreme conditions, it responds by remodeling its inner structure. As we know, the muscles adapt and grow in respond to being stressed. This is what we do at the gym. Increased muscle density and volume lead to better definition and muscle tone.

In order to feed these muscles, both during the treatments and at rest, energy is necessary. Energy is released via a catabolic reaction in fat, where lipolysis (breakdown of fat) allows energy release just adjacent to where the muscle is contracting. Remember that developed muscle burns more fat—three times more than other tissue in the body. This means that lipolysis occurs during the treatments, but also, more fat is being burned even
while at rest.

What could be better than increased muscle tone and decreased fat?

A narrower, leaner waistline and a perkier butt are just what the doctor ordered after the holiday excesses. Studies show that after the recommended four treatments in a span of two weeks, the treated area has a 16% increase in muscle mass, a 19% reduction of fat, and a 96% patient satisfaction rate. Enjoy the New Year and new muscle tone with new EmSculpt HIFEM technology.
