21st Mayor State of the City Address
With a focus on “building bridges,” advocating the need for stronger gun control, and shining a spotlight on the completion of the Lost Hills freeway overpass, Calabasas Mayor Fred Gaines delivered the City’s 21st Annual State of the City Address on Thursday, September 20; for the first time, the speech was given outdoors in the Calabasas Civic Center Amphitheatre. With a special introduction by National Merit Scholarship semifinalist Sanath S. Sengupta of Calabasas High School, Gaines recapped the City’s accomplishments over the past year while providing the over 200 people in attendance with a look at upcoming projects and goals. Gaines also named Calabasas resident Mark Sikand as Citizen of the Year, honoring him for his work with the Calabasas Planning Commission and other community service activities. Gaines also paid tribute to the forward-thinking residents of the City, noting that Calabasas has “the greatest people in the greatest town, and that’s how we’re going to build a bridge to the future.”
