Malibu’s Premier Race Debuts with Excitement and Community Impact

2024 Malibu Moves 5

Anticipation is building for Malibu’s sole foot race of the year. Always a sellout, this year’s Malibu Half Marathon, Malibu Moves, promises more excitement than ever. The two-day event on October 26 and 27 includes a 5K, Kids Run, and a scenic Half Marathon featuring spectacular ocean views along its 13.1-mile course.

International Protective Service, Inc. (IPS) is the title sponsor for the 5K, Half Marathon, and Kids Run. Led by CEO Aaron T. Jones, IPS is a prominent security and investigations firm known for its commitment to safety and protection. This partnership will significantly enhance safety measures and community engagement initiatives at the Malibu Moves events. With additional support from Pepperdine Graziadio Business School, Rusnak BMW, Santa Monica College, The Malibu Times, and 13 Stars Media, this title sponsorship marks a significant milestone for Malibu Moves as it continues to expand and positively impact the community.

The running event of the season starts at Zuma Beach with an out and back course. All finishers, whether walkers or runners, will be celebrated with a post-race beach bash like no other with a backdrop of Zuma’s crashing waves and picturesque sands. Founder and Race Director Erica Segel promises a fun and inspiring time for all ages. Her decade of experience as the previous event’s race director and manager proves she knows how to throw unrivaled post-race parties. This year’s race is capped at 3,000 ensuring a “premium and elevated” experience, Segel says. Another sellout is anticipated.

IPS/Malibu Moves’ exclusive charity partner is the Malibu Education Foundation, a community-driven fundraising organization dedicated to enhancing educational opportunities and enabling a vibrant academic experience for students in Malibu public schools. “We believe in their mission and supporting athletic programs from K1 throughout high school. We feel a strong alignment in the purpose that MEF has for the community and the message we promote to have an active lifestyle and have fun,” says Segel.

Adding to the festive race is the organizers’ messaging that “we’re a very inclusive event from youth to the senior population.” Segel, a seasoned runner, knows, “It can be intimidating to run a race even for those with confidence. What if I’m not going to be fast enough?  My passion is for the people who cross last. Those are the people who have probably overcome the most self-doubt and put in a tremendous amount of effort. They’re the ones who need to be supported the most.” Segel adds, “All ages, fitness levels, and body sizes are welcome. I want to reverse engineer the experience from the last crossing the finish line to the first. Their stories can change you forever. The journey some participants have embarked on is so much bigger than just the race. Celebrating elite runners is expected, but what if we put the focus on personal growth and the experience?” IPS/Malibu Moves races allow enough time for walkers and runners of all fitness levels who can count on support throughout the course. All finishers will be met with medals, food, music and of course celebration. Expect a beer garden and even massages.

“This is the only walking and running event taking place in our beautiful Malibu,” Segel notes. “Participants will be able to walk or run along the Pacific coastline. It’ll be a beautiful celebration of our community in a perfect beach setting.”

On October 26th the event’s Movement Expo features vendors, a kids’ run, beachside movement classes, and bib pick up. The 5K and Half Marathon takes place on the 27th with everyone gathering at the Finish Line Festival.

Those who raise $500 or more for charity partner MEF can gain access to a VIP lounge with curated food, deluxe restrooms and recovery lounges all while supporting a great cause.

It’s more than just a race. It’s was a celebration of health, community, and the stunning natural landscape of Malibu.

The IPS/Malibu Moves running events will leave you soaring with breathtaking scenery and its supportive atmosphere. This is an event for everyone, no matter age or fitness level. “This is an opportunity to be a community and celebrate together with a healthy message while also supporting the Malibu Education Foundation which directly benefits back to our community. This event is about showcasing the best of Malibu which is community, support, and giving back,” says Segel.

This running and movement celebration is a standout event on the running calendar. Celebrating community will leave lasting memories for all who take part.
