Members of the Malibu, Calabasas, and Agoura Hills communities gathered at King Gillette Ranch in October, for an open house dedicated to the Wallis Annenberg Wildlife Crossing. The event provided updates on the project, addressed residents’ concerns, and offered complimentary food. Construction of the wildlife crossing—the largest of its kind—began in mid-2022 and is projected to be completed by early 2026. Beth Pratt, Regional Executive Director of the National Wildlife Federation, explained that this annual event aims to keep the community informed and involved. “We want people to meet the major partners and ask questions about the construction, the National Park Service research, and more. It’s also a way to say ‘thank you’ to the community that made this happen,” Pratt said. Agoura Hills Mayor Illece Buckley Weber and Mayor Pro Tem Penny Sylvester proclaimed the week as “Urban Wildlife Week,” with Buckley Weber expressing pride in hosting the world’s largest wildlife crossing.
