Walking Strong Day of Champions
On Sunday, May 26, the Walking Strong Foundation hosted “A Day of Champions” for the United States Power Soccer Association’s Los Angeles Avengers team at Mamba Sports Academy in Thousand Oaks. The Avengers are a 10-member team of boys ranging from 12 to 14 years old who have Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. The event, hosted by Walking Strong and Mamba Sports Academy, was the culmination of a winning season that took the team from Santa Barbara to Hemet. The event included an exhibition game, a father/son game, food trucks, DJ music, and an awards ceremony. Involved with two teams for USPSA for over 10 years, Coach Armando Ornelas and his wife Sandra have committed their lives to coaching in memory of their son Kyle, who passed away last summer at 23 from Duchenne complications.
Walking Strong was founded by Valerie and Jorge Llauro from Woodland Hills when their son Alexander was diagnosed with a rare form of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy in 2011. For more information, visit walkingstrong.org.
